Southwest Transplant Alliance Launches Expanded Aftercare Services to Include Wellness Counseling for Families Impacted by Organ and Tissue Donation

Supported by the STA Foundation, TaskHuman’s live network of global specialists support grieving families

Dallas – Nov 29, 2021 – Organ and tissue donation can help a family find hope during the sudden loss of a loved one. Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA) walks alongside donor families throughout their grief journey as part of its aftercare services – but that’s just the beginning. Today, the organization announced an expansion of those services in partnership with TaskHuman, the first-ever digital platform connecting users in real time over video call with a global comprehensive community of live specialists. The partnership was made possible by the Southwest Transplant Alliance Foundation that was established in 2018 to support the lifesaving mission of the organization. TaskHuman will be offered to donor families as they continue to process the grief associated with losing a loved one unexpectedly.

“We know that no two families grieve in the same way, which is why we’ve partnered with TaskHuman  to provide even more support to those who have made the selfless decision to donate their loved ones organs,” said Patti Niles, President, and CEO of STA. “Through our partnership, services are available with vetted professionals who can provide the critical support that’s delivered at the families’ convenience. We are honored to expand our support and dedication to our donor families, reminding them that STA is here throughout their journey.”

STA’s partnership with TaskHuman expands the organization’s already holistic approach to caring for organ and tissue donor families by connecting families with the grief support and counseling needed most. The platform will be available 24/7 and allows users to connect with a global network of wellness providers over video call when and where it is convenient. The TaskHuman platform adds to STA’s already robust aftercare programming for families that includes:

●        Trained and certified family support teams that guide a family through the process of losing a loved one.

●        Dedicated, comfortable space for families to rest, grieve and recoup, named in honor of donor hero Taylor Storch.

●        On-site care administered at the hospital or at STA.

●        Support literature provided to families, including personalized outcome letters informing families how their loved one was able to save and impact the lives of others.

●        12 months of post-donation outreach services.

●        Celebration of Life program honoring donors and their families for the selfless gift of life.

●        Donor Memorial Garden tribute initiatives and STA Foundation Celebration of Life programs.

The STA Foundation also honors donors and their families during the annual Hope Starts Here 5k Race and Phil Berry Transplant Tournament. These programs raise critical funds to provide support and services for donor families and transplant recipients while also honoring the gift of life and raising awareness for the importance of organ and tissue donation.

Earlier this year, STA launched TaskHuman with its more than 300 employees to help provide much-needed resilience and support during a challenging time for the healthcare industry and the community at large post-pandemic. To date, STA employees have logged a total of 2070 minutes of coaching on topics such as meditation, managing stress and anxiety, mindset transformation, and emotional resilience.

“It’s our hope that the support TaskHuman coaches provide helps eliminate some of the strain from day-to-day life, whether that be through a grief management session or any of the 100s of topic of coaching available on the app. TaskHuman is honored to work with Southwest Transplant Alliance, bringing real-time support to donor families where and when they need it most,” said Ravi Swaminathan, co-founder and CEO of TaskHuman.

TaskHuman is designed to help individuals quickly discover and connect over video call with vetted specialists in a variety of topics, including counseling, grief, and nearly 1000 different aspects of daily work and personal life. This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration that will extend STA’s service through the digital platform at no cost to organ and tissue donor families.
