Three-point shots and a home-team win won't be the only reasons
for high
fives at the Dallas Mavericks basketball game on Tuesday. An appearance
during halftime by 50 young recipients of organ transplants will
be cause
for applause.
The children represent the 50th anniversary of successful organ
transplantation in the United States. They are participating in
the
Southwest Transplant Alliance/Dallas Mavericks Organ Donor Night
at American
Airlines Center in Dallas.
Among the organ recipients are Trenton Cary, 10, of Coppell, who's
had his
new heart for nine years; Allan Kear, 15, of Flower Mound, who received
his
heart when he was 17 days old; Travis Self , 17, of Carrollton,
who received
a liver in August; and Meaghan West , 6, of Lewisville, who's had
her
life-saving heart for five years.
For information about organ donation, contact Pam Silvestri with
the
Southwest Transplant Alliance at 214-522-0255 or psilvestri@organ.org.
