Approach and Authorization Coordinator (AAC)

OVERVIEW

The Approach and Authorization Coordinator (AAC) is responsible for obtaining appropriate authorization for tissue and cornea donation on every suitable referral and providing support to donor families during the authorization process. Included in these tasks, coordinators will be responsible for collecting donor medical/social history, and determining donor suitability in collaboration with STA management, recovery team leaders, and tissue processors.

Job Requirements:

  1. Current Texas credential as an EMT-B or LVN, or completion of an accredited clinical healthcare program resulting in a certification, registry, licensure, or equivalent work experience.

  2. Prior referral screening experience preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in all duties of a Referral Intake Coordinator.

  3. Must be detail-oriented and able to provide accuracy in documentation.

  4. Must be able to simultaneously perform multiple complex processes and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.

  5. Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.

  6. Ability to type 45 WPM, proficient with Microsoft Office and use of a telephone system.

  7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.

  8. Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

  9. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto to meet all job duties and responsibilities. Current Driver’s license required.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Presents all available donation options and completes authorization documentation for donation with families.

  2. Obtains a complete, detailed Donor Risk Assessment Interview.

  3. Maintains an authorization rate consistent with the department expectations.

  4. Ensures donor documentation in the electronic donor record is accurate and maintained in real time.

  5. Communicates and provides critical medical screening information to other STA departments, processors and agencies, with guidance from higher levels.

  6. Requests ME/JP Permissions for donation.

  7. Coordinates logistics with Funeral Homes and partner agencies for recovery timelines.

  8. Performs data entry corrections as required and notified by Quality Systems in accordance with established timelines.

  9. Performs other activities as directed.
