Sterile Processing, Distribution, and Materials Coordinator PRN

Success factors for this role include sterilizing and cleaning medical equipment and instruments utilized in organ and tissue recoveries.  Retrieval of contaminated supplies while sterilizing, preparing, and maintaining sterile instruments.  Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of disposable recovery supplies, collaborate with operations departments to manage the efficient flow of all material and supplies, and prepare an efficient receiving schedule while evaluating the ability of all materials and supplies.

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

·         Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.  Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.

·         Delivers instrument trays and individually wrapped instruments to the sterile core for use in organ and tissue recoveries.

·         Monitors biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.

·         Allocates and organizes materials and supplies to meet demand.

·         Assists with cost control by identifying ways to improve the materials management process.

·         Maintains adequate levels of instruments, recovery supplies, and equipment.

·         Performs inventory of recovery supplies and equipment and documents in the inventory management system.

·         Verifies lot numbers and expiration dates of medical supplies and ensures they are of appropriate use prior to release.

·         Maintains certificate of sterility/analysis documentation for major tissue supplies.

·         Assembles recovery kits/pre-pack supplies for the tissue, surgical, and clinical teams.

·         Verifies instrumentation and equipment are appropriate for use prior to release.

·         Communicates with medical supply and equipment vendors.

·         Participates in audits for the FDA and tissue processors.

·         Maintains and ensures the accuracy of inventory in monthly reporting.

·         Performs other related duties as assigned.

·         OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has the potential of occupational exposure.

·         The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

·         HS diploma or GED required.

·         Minimum 1 year of experience in an allied health profession, preferably with a focus in areas of inventory management or central supply processing.

·         Sterile processing of surgical instruments experience preferred.

·         Knowledge of biohazard waste disposal as well as AORN cleaning procedures

·         CST experience preferred.

Qualifications and Skills:

·         Knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint application

·         Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.

·         Excellent communication skills required.  Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.

·         Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.

·         Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

·         Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.  Current Driver’s license required.
